I want to sit with you at Brown Park
We can watch kids play baseball in the field below
My little boy likes the swing, the horse, and the sand
I'm sorry I swung so high if I brushed your hand
Just shake it off; we're vibrating on a hazel wire
They never taught us how to play
We learned to flow like wind in waves
I want to wait for you by the poolside
To tell a joke to make you laugh so long
The pool was overfull; the people were diving and splashing in the water
They never taught us how to swim
We learned to drift on an endless sea, so easily
I want to play with you at Brown Park
Until the hills settle down in clean, fresh snow
Then I will sleigh by you on an incline
And these proud valleys turn into hills just in time
They never taught us how to sing
We learned to follow the drum inside
They never taught us how to breathe
We learned to listen for the wind outside

Going For The Gold

There is a voice on the phone telling what had happened
Some kind of confusion, more like a disaster
It wondered how you were left unaffected but you had no knowledge
The chemicals covered you
So a jury was formed as more liquor was poured
There is no need for conviction!
They are not thirsting for justice
But I slept with the lies that I keep inside my head
I found out I was guilty
I found out I was guilty, but I won’t be around for the sentencing because I am leaving on the next airplane
And though I know that my actions are impossible to justify, they seem adequate to fill up my time
But if I could talk to myself like I was someone else, then maybe I could take your advice
And I wouldn’t act like such an asshole all the time
There is a film on the wall that makes the people look small who are sitting beside it, all consumed in the drama
They must return to their lives once the hero has died
They will drive to the office, stopping somewhere for coffee
Where the folk singers, poets, and playwrights convene dispensing their wisdom...oh dear amateur orator
They will detail their pain in some standard refrain
They will recite their sadness, like it’s some kind of contest
Well if it is, I think I am winning it
All beaming with confidence as I make my final lap
The gold medal gleams, so hang it around my neck because I am deserving it
The champion of idiots
Well a kid carries his Walkman on that long bus ride to Omaha
I know a girl who cries when she practices violin
Because each note sounds so pure it just cuts into her and then the melody comes pouring out her eyes
Now, to me, everything else just sounds like a lie

Timing is everything
You know it's beautiful
Look at you
You know you're beautiful
Needs some attention
They made me a prince
Said I'm important
They raised me upon stilts
No one can touch me
Gowns and panties
Fashion magazines
Stained with grape juice
Torn at the seam
T just want to hold you in my arms
And sleep in your bed
A quiver of arrows
Was left in your stead
The gorgeous lies that I want to believe
Each one a promise of everything I need
You know it's beautiful
It's your own invention
And I know you're beautiful

I met you through a common friend in the attic of my parents house
Although I didn’t know it then, I soon was finding out
Oh, you are the roots that sleep beneath my feet and hold the earth in place
Each time a faucet opens there are words that are spoken
The water runs away and I hear your name
No, nothing has changed
There was this book I read and loved
The story of a ship that sailed around the world and found that nothing else exists beyond his own two sails and wooden shell and what is held within
All else is sure to pass, we clutch and grasp, and debate what is truly permanent
But when the wind starts to shift, there is no argument
So now I sing and drink and sleep on floors
And I try hard not to be annoyed by all these people worrying about me
So when I’m suffering through some awful drive, you occasionally cross my mind
It is my hidden hope that you are still among them
Well are you?
Oh, you are the roots that sleep beneath my feet and hold the earth in place
Each time a curtain opens the sunlight pours in and a lifetime melts away
We share a name on some picturesque grave

It started off as an ending
I'll never see her sad eyes again
Silently meeting them on the concourse,
tears promised never to forget
Remember that city, shining like jewelry,
changing beneath us on our way back home
Where the painting hangs in the living room
I am still there holding my hands
And I’ll never get used to it
I'll never be what I want
Hard as I try, I won’t be anywhere
Glory in the highest
Voices are praising
Tongues are dividing
Buildings explode and fall down like children,
stand up and reach for a table's leg
So far from here listening inside your head clouds are spitting dust
With each lesson you're learning that you wont find truth here, but you're still driving
There is no other way you could have gone
I'll never be where you are
I love you more than this heart could ever show,
but you wont remember anything
Anything
Remind you of me
Sleep in the quiet place where you can be alone
Anything you want from me
I love you more than this heart could ever show,
and you will never get used to it because
you won't remember anything that happened
and you wont be anywhere

No Lies Just Love

It was in the March of the winter that I turned seventeen that I bought those pills that I thought I would need
And I wrote a letter to my family
It said it’s not your fault, you have been good to me
It’s just lately I have been feeling like I don’t belong
Like the ground is not mine to walk upon
I have heard that music echo through the house where my grandmother drank by herself
And I have sat watching a flower as it was withering
I was embarrassed by its honesty
So I would like to be remembered as a smiling face and not this fucking wreck that has taken its place
So please forgive what I have done
You can’t stay mad at the setting sun because we all get tired, I mean, eventually there is nothing left to do but sleep
Well Spring came bearing sunlight, those persuasive rays
So I gave myself a few more days
My salvation it came quite suddenly when Justin spoke very plainly
He said, “Now of course it’s your decision, but just so you know
If you decide to leave, then soon I will follow”
So wrote this for a baby who is yet to be born
My brothers first child, I hope that womb is not too warm
Because it is cold out here and it would be quite a shock to breathe this air
To discover loss
So I would like to make some changes before you arrive
So when your new eyes meet mine they won’t see no lies, just love
I will be pure
I will be pure, like snow, like gold

Girl behind the screen, the movie I seem to see is hardly there
The glass contacts in my eyes make it hard to focus
When you step out on the floor your dress is swaying in the piano
The fabric of your invisible body is being sewn with music
Kaite, will you come true for me?
Come by sometime when I'm awake dream
Will you step into the light from the screen so that I can make out your shape?
You don't need to tell me anything, because I know what you mean
Girl, open the window
Let the air and the music inside your room
Turn off the TV stretch your body as far as it goes
The plants you nurtured are beaming and growing in gratitude
The ones forgotten have withered and they're black as coal
Kaite, will you come true for me?
Come by sometime when I'm awake?
Everyone else just lies to me; yeah they say you're a dream
Will you step into the light from the screen so that I can make out your shape?
You don't need to tell me anything, because I know what you mean
Hold Your Tongue
Don't be so quick to curse them
There's a hidden beauty finding its way out of everyone
Kaite, will vou come true for me7
Come by sometime when I'm awake?
Everyone else just lies to me; yeah they say you're a dream
Will you step into the light from the screen so that I can make out your shape?
You don't need to tell me anything, because I know what you mean

Kathy With A K's Song

Love is real
It is not just in novels or the movies
It is fact and it is standing here right in front of you
So if you’d open your eyes, oh what a sweet discovery
There is hope
There is joy
And there is acceptance
So now let all the light that collects on your plants keep you warm, make you smile
And I will be there with this pen in my hand, to record, all the while
you’ll be laughing so loud that the house would shake with sound
And everything will be as new as the day it was found
Love is real
It is not just in long distance commercials
Or something that you thought you felt back in high school
So, I will turn black and white and become that horoscope you are reading
It predicts that something good is on its way
Then I will send you the world, green and blue, in a box through the mail
You can open it up and hold it right in your hand and be glad that it’s there
And be glad that you’re there
Now you can feel all the knots in your stomach start to untie
And suddenly it is not so hard to say you’re all right
Love is real
It is not just in poetry and stories
It is truth, and it will follow you everywhere you go from now on
So if you’d just cast off your doubt, then your lips would answer for you
Oh my darling, when you smile it is like a song
And I can hear it now
